Hi Sleepless! I'm sorry you and your daughter got zapped with that nasty flu that's going aound. :-( Hope you're all better now!

I think when you mentioned what a cool team they are that's where Mulder's dilemma lies. He feels that he and Scully are a team and always wants to think of them that way and I think he wants them to always support each other (I can't say why but this comes in to play in a Season 7 ep we just saw (Sorry guys!). But I bring it up because I think it makes me realize Mulder really believes in the "I'll stick up for you no matter what" idea of teamwork and expects Scully to always back him up as he would her.

His dilemma is that in that hard head of his he also loves the fact that Scully does disagree with him and will contradict him. He really enjoys that and (sorry for a shippy injection here) I think he finds that attractive about her too.

So he's in constant turmoil wishing Scully could just follow him blindly (which is what Diana does or pretends to do) and wanting Scully to still challenge him and his beliefs and make him work for them.
It is a very interesting and complex relationship and I'm glad they aren't buddy buddy all the time and run into these conflicts. It makes for much better story telling.
I talked more on this in my post on page one which is in the archives but I don't fault either of them and I still support Mulder! :-)

I didn't understand the Gibson operation either with him being awake but someone pointed out back then that that's nromal for a brain operation like that for the patient's eyes to be open. I don't remember how it works. Is he awake? I think he is. MAybe someone with more medical knowledge can give us further details. But CSM smoking in the OR was a no no! :-(
