Hi Sleep - hope you and your daughter are both feeling better. I'm hoping to come back and write some more in response to your wonderful post in a little while, but wanted to answer the question you and det asked about Gibson's operation while it was on my mind.

I've seen lots of medical documentaries (what can I say? I love to watch blood and gore while I'm eating my tea! ;o) ) and have definitely seen more than one where a brain operation is done on a conscious patient. It's so that the surgeon can tell if he's causing brain damage - the patient's responses are monitored and the surgery will stop if any visual/audio/movement impairment is noted.

Useless medical knowledge - a sign of an ER addict. ;o)
