Wow--this is deep stuff! Since I read magazines backwards, I'll comment on the brain surgery--yes they do keep you awake during most brain surgeries--you are asked to move fingers or toes, etc. so that they tell whether or not they are in the right spot and haven't done too much damage.

I agree with both of you. What I find fun to watch is how She gave him the first hug way back in one of the first episodes and he didn't quite know how to react or even hug back. She actually was tender toward him a couple of times but he didn't really seem to know how to respond. Then the tables seem to switch when she finds out about Phoebe and then Diana Fowley--seems to become cooler overall while he becomes tender and demonstrative. (No kiss at that point--tried but between bees and whatever else, nothing happens officially. Triangle is a whole topic on itself.) When she is taken on the mountain, I think he has time to really think about what he has lost and then when he almost loses her again to cancer, kidnappers, etc. I think he realizes how important she is to him--maybe even how he feels about her--protective, etc. Tables turning all the time. (Their relationship to this point reminds me of when my sister and I would chase each other around the table trying to catch each other.) Complex relationship is definitely a good way to describe these two!
