OK, so what I want to know is - who played Toto? ;)

I loved Triangle. Every second of it. Scully’s trip around the FBI building was one of the funniest things I’ve seen in ages. It seemed to me that she was mad as hell with Mulder, while at the same time being very, very anxious about what a dangerous mess he’d got himself into. Also the filming was fantastic. Am I right in thinking that the whole sequence was filmed uncut from start to finish, or did I imagine that (along with imagining that this was a black and white ep!). I have to admit, I clapped at the end of the sequence, when she jumped into the van with Langly, Frohike and Byers. It was stunningly well shot, acted, written... just great.

It was interesting to see her at work, but not in the basement office - is that area where they both work now, or does Mulder sit somewhere away from her? (No need to answer if you know! I’m just pondering.) I’d wondered about this before, especially since I’ve been watching lots of S2 eps recently - the last time the X-Files were shut down/taken away from M and S. At that stage the FBI office Mulder was working in was much larger and messier than the one we saw Scully in last night (can’t remember the ep now).

That reminds me, has anyone got any idea at all of how come the lone gunmen were allowed free passage to wander around the FBI headquarters? It struck me as odd that three, well, anarchists, for want of a better word, would be allowed in there!

Anyway, back to my thoughts, such as they are. The main thought at the end of the ep was, ‘I have got to watch that again!’. I felt like I’d missed so much. Loved all the Wizard of Oz nods that I caught, and I’m a big fan of the film so I’m sure I would pick up on more on a second viewing. Elvira Gulch was a lot more attractive than she appeared in Kansas/Oz! It was funny, because the write up in my listings magazine said ‘A fantastic ep, where Mulder travels back in time to a Thirties cruise liner via the Wizard of Oz. It sounds weird, but just go with the flow!’

Dev, I totally agree that Mulder was somewhat out of character to begin with. It struck me as odd that he would be quite so aggressive with the people who pulled him out of the sea (although I suppose they had kicked seven types of, ummm, you know what, out of him, so maybe he was a bit mad at them for that!). The wisecracks were just a bit forced, I thought - especially at the beginning of the ep. I didn’t like to see Mulder getting quite so roughed up, and also I thought it was a little overdone. I know the point of this ep wasn’t reality, but the attitude of the British crew wasn’t realistic at all to me. Thinking about all the old black and white war films I’ve been subjected to over the years, the thing about the whole of British society back then was how polite and reserved everyone was, compared to the present day. It just didn’t ring true to me that the captain of a big ship like that would punch someone before giving him a chance to speak up for himself.

Agent M, I thought the English accents weren’t too bad, on the whole (but I *do* have a London accent so maybe that’s why), apart from the painful Scottish accent the Captain of the Queen Anne had. That made me cringe every time he opened his mouth. I was almost glad when they shot him! ;o)

SMH, got to agree - the cinematography was excellent all the way through this ep. Although I did find some of the ship scenes a little dark. The reception on my TV is OK until there’s a lot of black, then I get ‘ghosting’ from another station which gets a little annoying! I’ve already mentioned Scully’s scene (how come it doesn’t surprise me that you loved Scully being completely single-minded? ;o) ). The two separate Scully’s passing through each other on the ship, then both turning around as if something had bothered them was a nice touch.

And I loved 1939Scully’s dress. Wow! I’d love a dress like that. And somewhere to wear it, of course. Mind you, it wouldn’t look quite so good on me! She looked stunning. Actually, while I’m on the subject of wardrobe, did it strike anyone else that Scully’s black suit was a little snug? Ithought it was really unflattering with the cell phone bulging at the back. It made her look as if she had really broad shoulders - kind of American Football style!

Moving on.

I liked the idea of seeing other characters appearing in 1939 mode - it continued the Wizard of Oz theme (which started with the name of Mulder’s ship, btw, the Lady Garland LOL!). Good old Skinner - his 1939 character did an almost perfect mirror of the present day one. Seeming to refuse to go against the rules, but quietly doing all in his power to help our dynamic duo. :) Does anyone speak German, btw? I don’t know any at all and didn’t manage to pick up any of the bits that were done solely in German. I was waiting to see Krycek show up too. Shame they didn’t get him in there somewhere.

So we come to the kisses. Wow. I was helpless with laughter when Scully planted one on Skinner in the lift (elevator, whatever ;) ). And then when she shut the door after he bawled her out for CSM’s benefit, and the other guy was in there! Had he seen it all? I didn’t notice him in there while she was doing the deed. I also had a feeling that she was still holding onto Skinner’s arms when the lift doors opened. Do you think that CSM and his little posse all had a good idea of what had just gone on?

I didn’t laugh at the next kiss though. My stomach did a cartwheel! Mulder really planted one on 1939Scully, didn’t he? :) :) :) :D Shame he’ll only do that when there’s a chance he’ll never see her again, but even so. Very passionate... *sigh*

*ahem* OK moving on again, I suppose, although I could linger over that scene for a while. 1939Scully’s reaction was funny - she certainly didn’t pull away while the deed was being done, as it were, did she? And then landed that punch on him, just to show who’s really in charge. hee hee! Dev, loved the Action Hero analogy, it was kind of like something Harrison Ford or James Bond would do, wasn’t it? LOL

And finally. Mulder’s declaration at the end. That scene was funny - the way they recreated the whole thing from the Wizard of Oz. ‘But you were there. And you. And you!’ His comment when he first moved on the bed, ‘Oh. I feel... like hell’ was so well-played. I really felt for the guy. And Scully’s irritation with him over doing something so ridiculously stupid really came over. I think that’s also part of the reason she made the ‘Oh brother’ comment. Again, very well done, although I don’t expect anything less from either of them!

In all, I loved this ep. The kisses were in character and in line with the way the show has always played with us viewers. I love that aspect of it. I’m a shipper, definitely, in that I think Mulder and Scully really should be together. I also think that they both know that, it just seems like a mixture of circumstance and drugs has made Mulder admit it openly for the first time. Got to admire the bloke’s timing though. Could he have timed that declaration any worse? LOL

I’ve gone on enough. This was going to be brief as I felt that I needed to see it again! Ah well, this makes up for my lack of comment on last week’s ep, I suppose. ;)

Scully: “I want you to do me a favor. It's not negotiable. Either you do it or I kill you.”

SAILOR 1: "Fox Mulder, Federal Bureau of Investigation." Sorry, mate, never heard of it!
MULDER: “Never heard of it?”

MULDER: “Let them take you to Germany. They make nice cars.”

FROHIKE: The walls have ears.
SCULLY: I have ears. Will you tell me what's going on?

SKINNER: Use your head, Scully. It'll save your ass.
SCULLY: Save your own ass, sir. You'll save your head along with it.

SCULLY: Don't even think about trying to weasel me.

SAILOR 2: We win?
MULDER: Yeah, you come out on the side of history with no small
amount of help from us. Not much to apologize over the next 50 years
except for maybe the Spice Girls.
[LOL - I always knew he was a man of taste!]

FROHIKE: What kind of drugs is he on?
LANGLY: I want some.

MULDER: I love you
SCULLY: Oh brother...

Hope we get some good discussion going on this one.
