If you *do* decide it is dream, then it is definitely Mulder's fantasy about where Scully is concerned. Like - in 1939, Scully was wearing a sexy dress that she doesn't normally wear and was feisty in a Katherine Hepburn type way. *He* got to behave in a heroic fashion and 'got the girl'. Also, the whole camera moving around in long continuous sequences is totally like dreams are; you set off somewhere and you never seem to arrive. Mulder seemed to be captured and escaping all the way through. You seemed to go in one direction and yet ended up somewhere else.

One thing that bothered me about this ep (as I said in my post) was how Scully behaved at the FBI. But - if that sequence were part of Mulder's dream, what does it show? In his fantasy dreamworld, Scully goes into a desperate panic. She is so worried about him that she starts moving mountains and causing ruction with her superiors. And all to help Mulder. That must have made him feel good. Interesting if his asleep brain conjured up that sort of crazed devotion for him, from Scully. OK, she does care when he goes missing, but *never* has she displayed that level of 'lunacy'. And again, the camera work was swirly and continuous all around FBI HQ.

A dream makes sense, as an explanation, and if that was the truth, on that basis I did quite enjoy it. I think CC was playing another of his teasing games with Mulder and Scully and I think it nearly missed the mark. Nearly.
