Subject: Top marks for the Dreamland two parter!!
In reply to: Agent M 's message, "Dreamland LOL!!!!!!" on 14:00:19 01/27/00 Thu

Dreamland was excellent. I think it was far superior to Triangle. Besides which, it made loads of scientific/alien/X Files sense and was very good writing. I have read about the concept of time warp technology being used by aliens to travel vast distances and this fitted that very well.

We were back to the concepts that Deep Throat discussed with Mulder way back in S1, about secret bases and alien technology. Here it was turned on its head and we find out that the big cheese at the base is not sure that aliens even exist.

If Triangle had an actual kiss in it, then Dreamland had something even more meaningful and sexy : The Sunflower Seed scene. It was fantastic. Scully has just explained that the chances of Mulder getting his body back are remote. She makes her ‘joke’ about kissing him if he wasn’t so ugly and then he calls her back at the end and just deposits those seeds in her hand. I cried. I thought it was lovely and one of the nicest scenes between M & S to date. I was a little disappointed that the looks thing held her back from at least hugging him! But it is a minor complaint.

It was very well played by the actor who played Morris Fletcher and he did a very good job of being in Mulder’s shoes. As for Mulder being in*his* shoes – what a useless husband and father he turned out to be. He even admitted to being a lousy husband. Wasn’t it just brilliant how he reverted to type and spent the night on the couch watching porn? Now where have I seen that before??!! The daughter and her nose ring was very funny. “You said you’d give her an answer about her nose!” I loved “Ladies and gentlemen, Mr Johnny Cash” and everyone has mentioned the synchronised mirror dance. LOL! So that’s what Mulder gets up to in the privacy of his own home! Great thrust, Mulder. Oooh!

A couple of homage moments to CSM: Morris smoking Morleys (when he first steps out of the car, did Mulder wonder just for a moment if it was CSM himself?) and when one of the MIB said “Burn it” at the gas station. Lots of in-jokes for us fans. “There’s no need to be a Nazi about it!”

Throughout, I thought Scully was superb. From her first confusion over Mulder’s behaviour to the moment in his bedroom when he was handcuffed to the bed and he says something like “What if I don’t help you” and she says in reply to his chat up lines “I just shoot you – baby!”
People have mentioned how Scully should have sussed Morris earlier but just imagine if you were looking at the body of someone you know. Mulder looked normal to her and really, why would she suspect such an extreme happening as they had switched bodies? It’s outlandish. She would, therefore, just go on questioning him as she did, getting more disturbed by his behaviour. Seeing is usually believing after all. I think it took a huge leap of faith for her to accept that the ugly man she saw was really ‘her’ Mulder. Yet she leapt big style.

That’s all for now, or people will have become very bored by the end. I will just mention my favourite line “ Grandma Top Gun, will you shut the hell up?”

Dreamland: a gem “I’m all a tingle”
