Subject: Answers to 'complaints' - det and Cookie Monster
In reply to: Cookie monster 's message, "A few more complaints" on 00:57:49 01/31/00 Mon

A few little points: I *do* maintain that Mulder was a lousy husband and father, in that situation, but he was at the same disadvantage with Joanne, as Scully was with Morris: they didn't look like the person they were inside. No way would Mulder settle for a house in the suburbs with a cosy wife raising kids. It was all an unfathomable mystery to him, when faced with it. So, lousy in this instance but who's to say that he might not blossom in the right marriage! ;)

Waterbeds and mirrors - I think they belonged to Mulder (having said before that Morris put them in, I'm doing a U-turn! ) The reason it has to have been Morris is that there wasn't enough time (surely!) from when 'Mulder' brought in the bags of groceries to the point when Scully arrived. He had to get the place prepared. It would take someone several hours of work to put up the ceiling. He would have had to have ordered the tiles in, have them fitted, ordered the waterbed and arranged delivery all while he was preparing a seductive meal! Naaah, those bedroom accoutrements were already there and they were fitting examples of Mulder's kinky side. (IMHO) He is the porn mag king after all and mirror ceilings and waterbeds fit that profile. But above all, it's the time factor that convinces me.

I think Mulder maybe felt like there was a very interesting mystery that he himself was already involved with, namely, being changed into someone else's body. That might preoccupy you rather. He had conveniently stumbled across the very technology that he would have been investigating getting close up looks at the strange rift's effects and being more or less handed the flight data recorder. This, to me was very much what Area 51 would be about, for him. He was lucky to see so much!
