Subject matter aside, I think this was one of the best crafted XF eps. It was a very tight script and the M&S characterizations were right on the money here. The music really helped set the mood too, like an old style horror flick. And we even had the staple of the kids staying out of the neighbor's yard because it's the scary house.
One of the most interesting things was the use of bright, daytime scenes. A departure from the norm in the horror genre. And here that made it seem even scarier.

As for the subject, I agree with Nic. While disturbing, The X-Files took a brave step in introducing it. The most frightening horror is usually that which we realize can possibly exist in the world. It's the job of that show to frighten us and just saying Boo! won't do it.

Devlin how did you think that M&S lead the Sheriff to his death? I didn't see that at all. Or did you mean the deputy?
