Subject: Sheriffs and Mayors

Yes, robes and chains. Picture a frilly shirt (with a sort of ruff kind of thing), with a big chain and medallion round the neck, a long jacket and a three cornered hat, Could even have a silly feather coming out of it. The mayors (and sheriffs - it's all ancient ceremony!) dress up like Christmas Trees at municipal functions. PCs = Police Constables. I didn't think I'd have to explain that one to you!

And yes, the judge and barristers in crown court do still wear the dodgy wigs. It does nothing to make a witness feel at ease, all that pomp and dressing up. The judge's wig is long and the barristers' short (with a a dangly bit at the back, from which hangs a ribbon!) It makes me cringe just to tell you.

And I think the programme makers *did* make light of the deputy's death. Well, M & S didn't move or attempt to offer any covering fire or try to evade the trap to help a desperate colleague. It was all wrong. I can't like the episode. But try to give me some lee way - there aren't many I truly dislike.
