Subject: Tunguska and Terma!

Well this new pic that detoured posted means I'm going to have to give my opinions and insights on this particular favorite episode of mine! And to think I complained a bit over on supporting characters because detoured replaced my Ratboy with Pendrell, only to discover she's done one better in old episodes and given us Mulder and Krycek!

Anywho, on to Tunguska. This seriously is one of my favorite episode, and not just because it features lots of Krycek. I normally am not a big fan of episodes that feature minimal Mulder/Scully interaction, but this one was an exception. I know they work so well together, but seeing them work well apart shows just how good a team they are. Not to mention that even though they were seperated for most of the episode they both had someone to play off of with whom they have excellent chemistry. Mulder with Krycek, Scully with Skinner.

I think my favorite part of these eps were the congressional hearings. Poor Scully is once again shoved in a position to have to explain Mulder. But my Scully is as tough as nails, and as always she put Mulder before herself, being held in comtempt and risking her job. And who couldn't love the scene where Mulder calls from the back of the hearing, "What is the question?" and then that hug that gets even my noromo heart pounding with a twinge of shippiness.

There is something that I don't quite understand though, perhaps someone can help me out. What exactly was Krycek's role in all of this? I mean, I understand that he was working with the Russians and that he gave the order for that old guy to come to the United States and dispose of the rock so that the Americans couldn't work on a vaccine. But there's one point where Mulder says, "Someone used Krycek and Krycek used us." Why exactly did Krycek need to use Mulder and Scully? He already knew that guy was coming into the United States from Russia carrying the rock, why didn't he just go to the airport and kill him himself? I mean, he later killed the guy anyway. It seems that it would have saved a lot of time and people's lives if Krycek had just done that. Anyone have any explanations for me??
