Dev, Nic, first of all, I loved both of your reviews. Glad you guys loved this ep as much as I did. I thought it was a great start of the new season, but people have been known to disagree with me, especially of late. I was a little afraid that after all the anticipation the real thing might come as a disappointment.

SMH, I hope you get a chance to watch this ep again. I'm sure you'll enjoy it more the second time around. :-)

Dev, Nic, I share your surprise at some of the things Mulder and Scully did. When I saw this ep last autumn, Scully's disbelief wasn't making a lot of sense to me. My first reaction was "Oh no, not *again*!!". It seemed really absurd to me at the time. After having had time to think about it, it makes a lot more sense.

As I see it, Scully really remembers little of the events that occurred. I got the impression that she *did* tell Mulder, but he's reluctant to accept it. After all, a lot depends on Scully being able to back his stories. Maybe he hopes that she's seen more than she can recall at the moment and that things will eventually come back to her. Of course, this is pure speculation on my part.

By the way Scully hurries in during the hearing, it is suggested that she's just finished research on the virus. That might explain why Mulder didn't know about the outcome, the absence of proof that the virus is in fact alien. I think it's quite clever how the writers managed to twist the plot so that Mulder and Scully still have no proof. The structure of the virus is not like anything anyone has ever seen before, Mulder has seen the aliens, but alas he forgot to take his polaroid and the proteins in the virus are as Earthly as can be! GREAT!! BTW, Scully *is* close to believing, isn't she?! There's still a need for her to be "scientific" though, it seems only science can save them from the *big* *bad* people at the (FBI) top.

Nic, ITA with what you said about Mulder's behaviour towards Scully, not very nice, but all the more human. I also agree with you that he seemed to be speaking from the heart in FTF (HWS). When he says that "this time your science is wrong", I think he asks her to be more open to the possibility that her science doesn't show the whole picture, that part of it remains obscured (for now), and that therefore what the picture suggests is not necessarily the truth. Uh, does this make sense, anyone?

BTW, I liked Scully's openness in this scene. I didn't think it was out of character at all. Scully seems to have a knack for saying the right things at the right time, even though there are sometimes "right times" when she doesn't say anything… nobody's perfect, I guess.

Of all episodes, myth-arc eps are still my favourites. There's so much in there to think about. What about those grey aliens? I'm really curious about their development and why they start out as violent animal-like creatures. I hope we'll finally learn more about why they do what they do and why they can't live in peace with other races.

Umm… and yes I loved that twist at the end too: we all have 'alien' DNA! I wish there'd be more myth-arc like this soon, but I'm afraid we'll have to wait quite a while longer… :-(

OK, that's it for now, more later…

Mat - whose very happy the BBC is finally showing us S6!
