Perhaps I do feel really harshly towards Mulder, but I just can't help it. It just seems to me that Mulder has a long history of ditching/manipulating/treating Scully like dirt while I can think of hardly any instances when she has done that to him. Remember that time (which ep escapes me) when Mulder wants Scully to do an autopsy and she flat out refuses, so what does he do but call her his one in five billion or whatever. Next scene: Scully doing the autopsy. Manipulation, plain and simple, just like in the hallway scene.

The wounded animal comparison that I think devlin mentioned does make me feel a little differently. He was obviously hurt that Scully wouldn't back him up, and it could have just been retaliation without thinking. But given his history, I think he would have done something similiar in any case. He is so one track minded that he tends to be quite insensitive to anything that might get in the way of whatever he's doing.

I think it was really bold of Scully to even bring up the HWS and for Mulder to dimiss it so quickly hurt me as though I was Scully. Knowing the two of them it was probably the first time either of them mentioned the HWS and now thanks to Mulder's response it might be the last.
