Hardly! Hey all you BCCites! Just to recreate things when this ep first aired since Dev wants to know what we all thought, there was MAJOR fighting over this episode on the old Fox boards. I couldn' believe it! Name calling and people saying they would never watch the show again and how upset they were by it. I would say about 95% HATED this episode!

Me? I enjoyed it a lot! I spent a lot of time defending it back then. Let me tell you things got really nasty! I'm not even sure I can remember what the big objections were but I think people hated that Scully didn't go along with Mulder in the meeting and they especially hated Mulder for the way he supposedly treated Scully.

I haven't read all the posts in this thread yet but as Nic was saying, I also liked the fact that they acted human. There was a lot of bitterness from philes this past season upset with Mulder saying they didn't like how he acted at times. Do they want him to be a perfect cardboard cutout? Always nicey nicey? Isn't it more interesting to see their faults and know they can get really pissed off at each other sometimes and they can both be right and both be wrong? And what did he do that was so bad? He totally expected Scully to back him up and when she didn't it hurt him. Can we blame him for being ticked off at her? But many hated his behavior in this. I didn't understand that reaction.

It did seem like they hadn't talked much before the meeting. Maybe they didn't have time and Mulder just assumed Scully would back him up.

What went on between them was what I really liked about this ep. There was a lot of tension between them but of a different nature than we were used to. And I couldn't understand why people didn't see how beautifully woven together this was. What a great character piece it gave us.

Scully, as much as she may have wanted to, just couldn't bring herself to freely agree with Mulder and say she saw what she didn't. Maybe her being too groggy in FTF was a cop out but after all, she was pretty out of it! But that didn't mean she betrayed him as many thought. No, in fact she fought even harder. She spends the rest of the episode looking for the proof to keep Mulder from looking like a fool (once again!) And in the end, in that last wonderful scene, she gets it. She brings him proof. And at the very end he finally understands what she's been trying to tell him. I was so confused that so many seemed to miss that bit. They DID come together at the end and were back on the same page. But all I heard was what a jerk Mulder was and how Scully betrayed him and why weren't they all nice and sweet to each other after the movie?

This episode wonderfully displayed the core of their relationship and points out the difference between Mulder's relationship with Scully and his relationship with Fowley. Fowley was always the easy one as you guys pointed out we saw examples of here. She readily agrees with him thinking tht will gin he points with him. Scully makes him work and gives him credibility, he ran after her in the HWS to tell her that. I guess people were upset that he acted as if he hadn't learned that in The Beginning and all of that was forgotten. But he's not perfect and he's still learning. One of Mulder's very consistant traits is that he's very stubborn. I enjoy the process of watching him learn.

I tell you it was so bad around the XF boards when this first aired it was making me ill!

I guess people also didn't like the alien but I thought that was so cool at the end when it turned into a grey! And happily I hadn't been spoiled by that bit of information. How interesting that the violent scary aliens are the babies!

My only objection was that I didn't care for some of the treatment of Gibson by Scully. It was a very sweet scene when they found him in the car and they protected him. But then they both got a little "Well what can this kid do to for us?" in their attitude.
I got blasted a long time ago for suggesting that Scully may have had ulterior motives in The End when she asked Gibson questions about Diana and people said no, Scully wouldn't use Gibson. But it seems here like they were both doing it a little bit. But I guess that can be considered another human trait.

Well I'll see what others have said and if any disagree. I know we won't be as nasty here as the Fox board people though! :-)
