Yes, I think you are right about Mulder trying to get his head around Scully and her beliefs. If she can so steadfastly deny what she has seen, even as she stands next to Mulder, then how come she won't give herself up to believing in that? The character had been made both religious *and* scientific and for a science based person, this being tugged towards the fantastic must be so difficult. But Mulder could so often make the "But you believe in God" argument and yet he doesn't seem to. And - hopefully not being too theist here - he is even anti-religion. It is even less provable and believable than the things he's seen.

Will he now be using more 'persuasive' arguments in his efforts to turn her head? Fowley believes much more! Watch out Scully.
