Do you think that 95% were keeping character development in their mind? There is such a great variety of behaviours in this and so many angles to go from - people just aren't that easy to read. Even as I re-read my inital post, I can see how much I have tempered my bad feeling towards Scully. In my case, I was protecting my favourite character so I suppose I always start out taking Mulder's part. But I can also make a case for Scully's scepticism. What is quite moving for me is how much they entirely need each other - even if it is slag each other off, every now and then. And ITA - the end of this episode saw them in the same room, still together and Scully having told him something *fairly* dramatic - our genes contain alien genes. Prizes for guessing she would ever acknowledge *that*!!!!!!

Mulder has always been very certain about how he saw his future - he even says it to Skinner in 'The End' that what he is looking for is in TXF and he is still so sure that he begins to piece the charred remnants back together again, hanging on like a lifeline. Even with Scully at his side, he still feels like he needs his work, his personal crusade. I love his single mindedness, whilst hating his lack of sensitivity sometimes. But that's him - like us all: fatally flawed.

So, it amazes me what you say about people's negative reactions to the episode. I'd like to discuss it with them. For me, it was a delightful return to Mythos Heaven!
