She slips an arm back in to grab some barbecue and gasps when a hand painfully grips her elbow.

"You are so busted, Sis," her sister whispers in a gleeful voice. "I know you know where Rabid is."

"So what if I do," KS retorts. "What business is it of yours?"

"I really want to check out the new Susan Wittig Albert book," Kande whines as she follows her sis out the door and into the dark. "Rabid's the only librarian we have, so she's the one that has to check it out to me."

"All you have to do is scan it," KS informs Kande, tiptoing from lampost to lampost. She peers around the corner of the bank, then races to the next available shadow.

"What in tarnation are you doing?" Kande hisses at her. She nervously peers around herself. Sometimes when KS does this, there's a very good reason for it, like werewolves or rogue assassins. Othertimes KS just does it for practice. One just never knew, and KS wasn't telling.

"I'm avoiding Rabid," KS tells her, motioning for Kande to stay low as a bat swoops overhead.

"But we're looking for Rabid!" Kande protests. Several blocks behind them, the Shippervillians burst from Stardoe's front doors with lanterns and torches held high. Kande and KS can see the shadows from the lights dance around them and their cheerful voices can be heard echoing down the street.

"They just don't know what's waiting out there for them," KS says in a low voice to herself. She flattens herself to the ground as the bat swoops lower after a dragonfly.

"What? What's waiting for them? For us?" Kande wails.
