I think the idea of the show was to have a scary story every week that may or may not be related to aliens or the paranormal. The chemistry between GA and DD and the development of the characters was just icing on the cake.

I think where CC went wrong was with not letting GA out of her contract after last season. I love GA, you all know that, but there should have been a clean break. I like Doggett and Reyes, but the spectre of M&S hangs over them as long as Scully is around and that really keeps us from getting to know D&R.

If CC had let M&S go off into the sunset (not necessarily together, of course - I'm still a noromo) he could have devoted more of the show to developing D&R's characters. I'm truly disappointed that the show will not be continuing with those two. I think it had potential to maybe not be as good as XF of yore, but still a high quality, entertaining show.
