...obscure references turn out to actually MEAN something. Where the characters are developed slowly to explore all the facets of their personalities(good and bad) and no one from the top good gal to the lowest baddie is a cypher for long. I like a show where you CAN with obsessive viewing figure it out but not if you are simple minded about things and a show where even when you DO figure it out you are still amazed at the how and why.

Take last night's Angel for example...I had the Wes part down, I had the demon part down. Seen both coming for weeks now. I even knew about the red-head and her betrayal...so as Wes walked toward her clutching the baby I was like "NO, NO WES don't believe her...don't go closer..." But when she sliced Wesley's throat and left him bleeding to death on the ground you could have heard me scream in another county. WES btw is a major character(and on Angel/BTVS he could well be dead now as they have and will kill major characters just like that...painfully, grippingly and beautifully). I continued screaming as WES's friends went about their non-helping business..."He's bleeding to death" I kept screaming. But they went to black and I will now suffer for four-five weeks.

Rabid/Raeann
loving the show...WES is a hero...a sweetie and an all around good guy...not the lead in the show but like Skinner...but he was recently tempted by the dark side trying to do the "right" thing...and man was it wrenching to watch him bleed like that. GREAT, GREAT EPPY!
