Seriously though, maybe *I'm* the male chauvanist (except I'm not male, lol), but I don't find it all that offensive when men try and take care of women. Yes, Scully is qualified, yes Scully is capable, I'm not denying it. But at the same time, she's a woman. Women are different than men, and I think that they should be treated differently.
That being said, I don't really think Doggett has acted THAT much like a protective older brother to Scully. I just can't think of many instances. There is when he tried to keep Scully from seeing Mulder, but Skinner did that as well. They were both trying to protect her emotional well being. They were being typical men, but their hearts are in the right place.
I guess the way I've always seen it is that Doggett doesn't treat Scully the way he treats her because he views her as subordinate to her, but rather out of respect.
