Over the years I've heard explanations of how CC chose the name Mulder (it was his mother's maiden name) and Fox (it was the name of a childhood friend, or so he claims; the more cynical of us have our suspiscions that it was a novice producer's attempt to curry favor with the network he wanted to air his show on!). I've also heard him say he chose the name Scully as a tribute to Vin Scully, the legendary sports announcer.
But has he ever given an explanation as to how he came up with Dana?
