I don't know about a dream but the premise as I recall was that the lady created the detective agency & said a man named Remington Steele ran it so as to get business (since the world is sexist). So she had to act like she took orders from Steele when in fact she ran the place. But then along comes a con man who says he is Steele & she has to go along with it when he realizes the man doesn't exist. So they are stuck with each other, can she trust him? Or fall in love with him?

Now if they went with the whole show being a dream ending, they were on some kind of 80s bandwagon (St. Elsewhere, Newhart).
