Subject: NCIS & NCIS:New Orleans (spoilers for 9/20 eps)

I don't know if anybody still visits these boards, but I've got stuff to say about the season premieres of NCIS and NCIS: New Orleans, and nowhere else to say it, so I'm posting it here!

The season premieres of both shows introduced new characters and/or focused on the fact that previous leads had left. But I had strongly different reactions to them.

On "NCIS" they acknowledged that long-time agent Tony DiNozzo (played by Michael Weatherly) had left, but didn't dwell on it. Although they apparently need two agents to replace him, I liked both the new young male agent and the somewhat older new female agent.

On "NCIS: New Orleans" they acted like a pack of freaking morons over the fact that agent Meredith Brody (who hadn't even been in the New Orleans office that long, and was introduced on the pilot episode -- just two years ago -- as an agent who never stayed in one place for long) had left. Apparently none of them had EVER BEFORE had a co-worker quit!! I can't speak to what goes on in the real NCIS but in most work environments (including most law enforcement agencies, as I had professional contacts with quite a few police departments and sheriff's departments when I was a newspaper reporter), people quit their jobs on a fairly frequent basis. Most of their co-workers will accept it with a nod and, at most, a brief mention of "I'm going to miss him/her". They don't spend days (the episode covered a weeklong period) moaning and groaning about how having the colleague who just joined their office two years earlier quit is totally devastating them!! Also, I do NOT like the character who is sorta/kinda replacing her. And I don't even completely understand how/why an FBI agent is joining and NCIS team.
