Oh the days of Kindergarten, I remember it all like yesterday. The
pigtails and the crushes are all still fresh in my mind. One memory
alone stands vivedly in my thoughts. I stood before my class one day
with all the passion that I hold in me still and said "When I grow up, I
want to be the president of the united states" In my young age I
believed that I could make a difference. I looked upon my peers and
proclaimed that I would change the world. Today, though I no longer wish
the job of presidency, I still have the desire to push my generation
toward the goals I have.
Gabriela Mistral once said "Many things can wait. Children cannot. Today
their bones are being formed, their blood is being made, their senses
are being developed. To them we cannot say "tomorrow" for their day is
today." America, our generation is crying out, standing on the shoulders
of the strong we reach for the prize. Our day is not tomorrow, for my
generation, our day is today. We shall be the inovators, the caretakers
and the inhabitants of this world for the next 100 years. It's our time
to shine! In the bible it states "A single candle can illuminate the
darkness, but all the dark in the world cannot put out one flame" If
there is one solitary person with the belief in a greater America, and
the dedication to fulfill that belief then we shall move mountains, if
only a rock at a time.
My childlike dreams didn't stop at what SOCIETY thought I could do. But
what I thought I could do. I want to live each day of life like a child,
without worry of the "shoulda coulda wouldas" that succomb many adults
in this world. I want the faith that can move mountains.
If the pilgrims could sail thousands of miles, and kiss the stones of
Plymoth Rock because of a greater dream, then it is not only my wish,
but my duty to continue their legacy in my day. They praised God with
their all and trusted in something bigger than themselves. Without a
covenant to stand on, they had to give up everything for a dream. Unity,
Love, America.
I used to volunteer at a restorium where my Grandma worked. It was the
biggest joy in my life to help make people happy. I remember one man in
particular, sometimes I would read him books, and once he taught me to
play solitare. I would laugh at his jokes, and he would smile. I don't
think he knew, but he moved mountains in my life. He showed me the love
that this country is built upon. With each kind word he spoke he was
encouraging me, showing me integrity. In the eyes of this elderly man I
see all I ever want to be. It is for them, the ones who fought so I
could free, that I stand each morning and pledge to my country. It is
their fire, the ones who worked so I could live, that ignites my ownflame.
We are so lucky to live in a land where we can worship, a place where
we can live without worry of being condemned for the morals we posess.
In the next century America will be in the frail hands of the youth of
now. Through wisdom these hands shall grow strong, and in the century I
believe America will arise to a new heigth of beauty and wonder. The
child like faith that moves mountains will never be burned out. America
will never fall into darkness if one flame stands in ONE heart.
