Fully agree with you. Not at all sure President Stoute fully agrees with the other PTB (POWERS THAT BE at CU). Let's hope not. Suppose that TPTB decide to demolish the Churchill Tower (aka the "Tootsie Roll) in order to give Old Main a much better look on the Jefferson/Main Street side. Churchill was built as a building for Faculty offices back in the day when Canisius College was land locked. More "Yikes"-what to do with all those Faculty offices? Well, how about a project at the old Health Science Building to make it the Faculty Office Building. Sort of a mini of the beautiful job done downtown to transform the Trico windshield factory into the beautiful apartment building it is today. What if TPTB decide that the CU Whehle Business School should be moved from Old Main into its' own stand alone building ? Possibly on Jefferson & E. Delavan on the CU property presently vacant. On the other hand, how about into Lyons? What's the present rush to sell all about? It does sound like a "dumb idea".

Transform LH into a Charter School. Collect the rent.

So, does that mean CU would be selling Lyons to someone or an entity wanting to establish a Charter School, or just renting it to them?

For a while, many Jesuit institutions, including Canisius, explored opening an adjacent community college. The program was based on the fairly successful Arrupe College at Loyola Chicago.

Canisius probably isn't doing it yet or can't do it yet, but Health Science would be perfect for that, and Lyons Hall could work well enough.

Well our President Steve Stoute must be familiar with Loyola Chicago, having come to us from DePaul Chicago (the largest Catholic university in the USA). We can hope Health Science and Lyons stay with CU (a Jesuit institution). Someone must know what's going at CU that TPTB think the buildings should be sold. How's the $150MM development drive (silent portion) going? Anyone know?

P.S. Take a look at the "Probably not going to happen but..." piece of Sat. May 23rd. https:www/.luc.edu/arrupe/. "WELCOME TO ARRUPE COLLEGE" "An innovative two-year degree program that ensures affordability and supports the whole person". That's a part of Loyola University Chicago. Imagine that at CU. The whole piece is 13 pages long in color. Why not a program like that at CU in Health Science or Lyons in place of trying to sell those buildings.

Re: Yikes -- There is not enough of a base in Buffalo., Sun, May 24 2026, 16:10:38
ECC South is about to close. We have a shrinking population in WNY as well as in general enrollment. The best answer is to merge with a D’Youville or Daemen which offers a broader academic enrollment with our curriculum. It’s the survival of the fittest when it comes to college institutions. Canisius needs to be smart. Go Griffs!

Re: Yikes -- Tweak, Mon, May 25 2026, 1:18:46
Merger is honestly a pretty good idea; not as simple as LIU Post and LIU Brooklyn merging to make one LIU but look what that did to it's profile and Athletics - they've qualified for NCAAs in both MBB and BASE recently. I would advocate for D'Youville w/ that nursing program and keep/elevate the sports D'Youville has that Canisius doesn't (i.e. women's wrestling) for enrollment boosters for the University as a whole.
I understand why Canisius needs to opt in to NIL to keep up w/ the Jones's but doing so and putting roster limits on sports such as women's soccer is probably hurting enrollment/tuition dollars to the University as a whole.

Re: Yikes -- It’s not about land BfloGriff!, Mon, May 25 2026, 7:07:37
If it was about land we would have bough Medaille. It’s about building a sustainable enrollment to ensure the long term. There are already too many colleges / universities in WNY. The state of NY will support their own. Merger make the most sense. We need to do it before Niagara or Bona eye a campus in the city of Buffalo. Trust me this could happen very easily. We’re too small to maintain what we currently have. Go Griffs!

Can't/don't agree with you.CC/CU has owned Health Science and Lyons for years. CU is not"eyeing land---to purchase and hold for future expansion". CU already owns it. Highly likely to need it for growth. And why in heavens name would NU or SBU "eye a campus in the city of Buffalo"? Especially when "there are already too many colleges/university in WNY"? Go Griffs, indeed.

They would expand their footprint with the schools which have been mentioned. Bona & Niagara financially are just as desperate. Both schools are looking to stay viable & it’s beyond their current campuses.
