Subject: A Head for Tri-Arcanoth

Jax circled the encampment,
settling ever lower,
until he found the space
he needed, and then he
made the griffen's
awkward landing.
The claws and paws
of a lion are not
conducive to a soft,
nor graceful alighting.
I slid from his back
with the reeking head
of the dragon in my fist.
"Ho, there! you! Who is
in charge?" I screamed
at a malingering pikeman.
He looked at me and then
at the griffen and pointed
toward a the compound,
"O'er there, if be he's still
about--what's that stinking
thing you're carrying--?"
Not bothering to answer,
Jax and I lurched to where
he pointed. My feet were numb
from the flight, and griffens
are never graceful aground.
Reaching the inner compound,
I saw a man who looked
in charge and accosted him,
"You! Where is Belamane?
And, where is Tri-arcanoth?"
At that moment there was
a roar that shook the air,
and Tri-arcanoth slithered
into view. He roared again
and his two heads swiveled
about, searching.
I held the head aloft and
said, "Hey, Worm! Is this
what you are looking for?"
At that moment, the captain
of guard appeared and took
the head from me just as
I was about to throw it
at the feet of the dragon.
Tri-arcanoth roared and
smoke drizzled from his nostrils,
as he followed the captain
toward the command tent.
