Subject: Waiting

Waiting...it is not my best virtue.
I have honed my talons, and whetted my beak
until yon cliff side's rocks are scarred with
my whetting. And, still the battle tarries.
I watch and listen and watch,
ye can sift the veteran from the novice
by the way he waits. Heed the younger
'neath the linden tree next to the parapet..
note his restless gait, his impatient turning.
He's eager to prove himself in battle--more like
to get himself slain..now take notice of the gray
polled man by the pallets...he sees to his weapons,
sleeps whenever he can, and keeps himself in trim,
his scars prove his prowess...his staying power...
or, mayhap, his skill in avoiding danger!
Only those with the blood-lust running amok
long for swords to clash and battlemonts to roar.
I seek out Janora, she is gathering more of the healing
herbs...for all her gathering, there will likely not
be enough if this battle be long.
"Janora! hail--" "Ah, Jax, what brings you here?"
"A need for exercise and a friendly voice. Come,
let us reconnoiter. A bit of a ride will do you good."
"Here, let me gather this wee bit here and then into
the skies! I need to clear my mind, my thoughts!"
She secured the last herb, put it securely into her bundle
and I knelt for her convenience. Once aboard, we
sailed into the morning.
