Subject: And, Still I Live

The morning sun wakens me,
I stir beside the body of Janora,
and look about me.
I had not thought to see another dawning,
and yet the day finds me still here.
Mayhap, there is yet a
battle for me to fight,
another day to weep.
I try to stretch,
and find that I may not be dead,
but, I am sore weakened.
But, I will not leave Janora
to the scavangers, and so
painfully I rise and one by one
I carry stones to raise a cairn
above her body.
And, then I sang her to her rest.
From her body, I had taken her
pouch of salves and ointments.
And, having done my last kindness
for Janora, I look to my own hurts.
I used her ointments to advantage
and then settled beside her cairn
to sleep...this time for strength.
