STILLEY FOR SCHOOL BOARD
MOM ON A MISSION
Election is May 14, 2002

My name is Lori Stilley and I am a candidate for the Board of Education
in the Kabletown district. I am the mother of two children, Samantha 8
who is a third grader at Page Jackson and Adam who is 3. I have been
regularly attending school board meetings for the past three years, as
I
am concerned about the schools in our county. I have a strong
educational and business background. I have a PhD in Education and 8
years of teaching experience at the secondary and college level. I
have
also spent the past ten years as the financial manager of my family�s
business. I believe that it is time for a change on the Jefferson
County
School Board. As a Board member, I will be available and accountable
to
the families of Jefferson County. I believe that we have good teachers
and students. We must deal with problems of overcrowded schools,
deteriorating buildings, and the need for new schools. We need to
manage
money wisely and keep our citizens informed. Please visit my website,

MOM�S MISSION

� Build and Renovate our Schools
We need to work on preventive maintenance and improve the Health and
Safety requirements in our schools. We need to build new schools to
reduce overcrowding.

� Better Management of our Resources
We need a realistic budget. Instead of relying on the tax base of our
citizens to fund school construction, we need to increase the revenues
we
obtain from other sources. We need money from developers to pay for
the
impact of growth on our school facilities. We need money from the
State�s School Building Authority that is comparable to what Berkley
County receives. We need money from Federal and Private Grants to
subsidize our strained budget.

� Focus on our Teachers and Students
We need to work for comparable pay for our teachers. We need to
pressure
our legislature for cost of living increases in our area for our
teachers. We need to help our students and teachers by keeping our
class
sizes small. We need to focus on College Preparation,
Vocational/Technological Education, and Conflict Resolution. We need
to
restore and strengthen our cultural diversity program.

� Open lines of Communication
We need to publish our yearly budget in advance. We need to provide a
more interactive website and have Board meetings at local schools to
encourage participation. We need to videotape Board meetings for
viewing
on Channel 19 to keep our citizens informed.

Jefferson County is our home, and we need to provide a positive
learning
experience for our children. I will be working hard over the next
months
to meet as many people as possible. Call me and invite me to your
group.
We can share our plans for sensible solutions for Jefferson County
Schools. While I live in the Kabletown district, voters throughout the
county can vote in this election. Remember, only one candidate from
the
Kabletown district can win a seat on the Board. I will represent you
and
I ask for your vote on May 14, 2002.
