Author: Kara and Davenger
Subject: **The pair enter the plains, crouching and low.**

**The girl straightens, brushing the hair out of her eyes with one runemarked hand. In the other is a large stick, about as tall as herself, which has been whittled into a point. At her side, her lifemate Davenger lifts his head and tests the wind for scents. Kara does the same, though her sense of smell isn't even a fourth of what Davenger's is. Even so, her sense of smell is greater then a human being's by a long shot. She could smell deer, knew there was some in the hunting plains. It was Davenger who could provide the details. Because of the link between them, Davenger could let Kara know exactly what he knew without any explanation needed. The girl nodded slightly as the information poured into her mind. A herd of deer, around 8 of them, five does and three bucks. With another nod from Kara, the two set off, getting close to the herd, which was grazing peacfully. The two lifemates separated, Davenger cutting of silently toward the left, while Kara kept going forward, placing one rune-covered foot in front of the other with no sound. Finding a suitable place about 50 yards away from the unknowing prey, she crouches down low, spear in hand, waiting. She didn't have to wait long, for suddenly the herd started, and bolted, black dog running at their heels. The deer spread out when they ran, and the dog spotted a buck on the outside of the group, closest to where Kara lay in wait. With a burst of speed, Davenger caught up to the buck, and placed himself between the buck and the rest of the herd. He veered toward the buck, snapping and growling. The buck swerved and turned away, running away from the lightfooted dog, not knowing that he ran towards Kara. Dav kept driving the prey toward Kara like a sheepdog drives sheep. The gap between the girl and the deer closed quickly, and Kara's hand tightened around her spear. When the buck was no more then 10 feet away, Kara lept up and jumped to the side, thrusting the spear at the animal's flank as in charged past. The spear buried into the bucks side, and the creature screamed in pain, jerking it's body so that it faced Kara. The movement nearly ripped Kara's arm out of it's socket, but she managed to hang on to the spear, and it came out of the deer's flank. In pain and anger, the animal charged at Kara. She tried to back up, but her foot got caught on a bump, and she fell onto her back. The buck reared, front hooves kicking as it prepared to destroy it's attacker. Kara desperatly attempted to drive the spear into the buck's chest, but the flailing hooves knocked it easily away. As the hooves fell down toward Kara to serve the killing blow, a black streak flew through the air at the demented animal. Davenger jumped over his lifemate and the buck's kicking hooves, throwing his weight on the animal and sinking his teeth into it's neck. The buck, not so stable on it's hind legs, fell backward, screaming in pain again as Dav's teeth found it's jugular vein. The pain was short suffered, though, as both wound to the side and a pierced jugular vein killed the deer swiftly. The dog let go when the buck's last death struggles ceased and it stopped kicking. Kara got to her feet a bit shakily and walked to the dead prey, taking her knife out of her belt, and knelt down next to it. Davenger sat down nearby, tounge hanging out and panting, taking his well deserved rest as he watched his beloved lifemate begin to clean their dinner with care.**
