I've nothing against Croft as such. Sure he's had some good performances - I was there for some of his best, including the match in Christchurch, the one before it in Wellington where he turned in an excellent performance, and the draw against the Springboks in Manchester.
But on balance, he's an average performer at best, and we would better served blooding promising youngsters whilst the team is doing well. Croft offers nothing that we don't already know about, and his performance against West Indies this summer was a shocker.
I'm staggered that anyone can say Schofield isn't good enough - how do we know? Two test matches, one on a damp wicket where he didn't even get a bowl, and 17 overs in the next. Sure, he didn't bowl well, but everyone's allowed nerves aren't they? Shane Warne took 1-100+ in his first match. Schofield also scored a 50 as well.
What's the point of contracts if you're not going to pick the players they were awarded to? Schofield was good enough in April 2000 - what's changed since then?
