Couldn't agree more about the need to streamline to county cricket, even if it means my county (Northamptonshire) merging with the despised Leicestershire!

The real problem with English cricket is well-documented. Too many players, all living a reasonably comfortable summer existence, content with turning in performances sufficient to warrant a new contract and little else.

There are quality players in England, but they are spread too thinly. The best need to play the best on a consistent basis.

Two division cricket is a step in the right direction, but unitl the transfer rules are relaxed, it will take a long time before the top players are able to gravitate towards the successful counties. I have no doubt that long term, some counties may go to the wall, but so what? Cricket has to realise that it is in the entertainment business, just like other sports, and people won't go on supporting it forever for purely sentimental reasons.

The major stumbling block to moving the game forward is the County Chairmen. Radical changes that would free up the movement of players will spell doom for counties that cannot keep pace, and these cosseted nobodies will be out of a job. It's like turkeys voting for Christmas.
