Hi Laura, what are you doing to revamp your reading? We have had major cuts and really don't have any money in the budget for anything either. What level do you teach? We use AR too.

I need to head up to Seattle early tomorrow, but I'd love to share with you when I get back.
I've taught K-6 over 21 years and was an elementary teacher/librarian for the last ten.

Someone here has been bitten by the procrastinator bug.
JennOK, if you'd send your address to my email, I'd be happy to send you a disk with almost 100 (96 at last count) reading passport cards from beginning reader to advanced.

They are printable on 4x6 index cards. The front has a picture and name of the "club" the back a list of suggested titles with reading level and a short annotation. The teacher helps the student set a goal and can choose to have them speak to their peers about the series or represent their achievement in a typical book report (I'll send you some ideas here too) format or any other way. Once the goal is achieved, we read their name over the all school announcements in the morning. The level of pride in their achievement was wonderful to see and reading improved school-wide.

My email is lgrosvenor@earthlink.net.

Sorry I'm so late in getting back to you.

LauraG
