Hey BC! I think we're all hoping to hear Stewart's review of the Paso Garagiste festival as soon as he frees up, but in the meantime, would you (or anyone else who went) perhaps like to share your account of your experience there? I caught bits and pieces via Facebook of how wonderfully successful the event was and it was exciting to track the new developments as they happened, but I'd like to hear about your time there because you're the only person I "know" who went, if you don't mind sharing...

[> in answer to Valerie's question ... -- BC (BC), 18:16:50 12/16/11 Fri

- my daughter and i traveled over 5,000 miles roundtrip ...
Photobucket
- to attend the first annual PasoGaragiste Festival
- a "sold out" event! ...
Photobucket
- held in a charming and intimate location ...
- it seemed as if the building and the festival had been tailor-made for each other ...
Photobucket
- so many wonderful wines from which to select ...
- all there to enjoy ...
Photobucket
- whilst tasting via the "first annual" commemorative glasses ...
- which quickly became highly sought after ...
- each one now considered to be a valuable collector's item i'm told! :)
Photobucket
- and, there were all sorts of complimentary and delicious "nibbles" for the guests to enjoy ...
Photobucket
- then, there was an awesome after party ...
- everyone was havin' fun and dancin' ...
Photobucket
- to the rockin' music of a kickin' band ...
Photobucket
- with an "awesome aussie" lead singer ...
- by the name of Stephen Rowe!
Photobucket
- in this observer's opinion, the whole day seemed to flow as smoothly as the delicious wines into the glasses ...
- although i am certain there was a lot a planning and preparation prior to the festival!
"Congratulations!" and "Well done!" to all of the Garagiste team!

What a lovely summary.
Perhaps I can make it next year. I appear to be suffering from extreme wanderlust at the moment.

Thanks for sharing the little tidbits about your trip, BC. It looks like you and your daughter had a nice time. I enjoyed the pictures.
Did you get a chance to interact with SFM at all? Did you find a new favorite wine and did you get to bring any back with you? How long did it take you to get to CA from TN?

well...

- from TN to CA ... it took about 4 days travel time ...'cause we left on tuesday and arrived in CA on friday / the day before the festival ... but, we made a lot of stops / sight-seeing along the way ... traveling on I-40 / making stops at various locations on "Route 66" ...

- a friend of ours (Reda) met us in CA ... she attended the festival as well ... "kinda cool" that Reda and i first met and became friends about 4 years ago whilst visiting and posting messages here at "Stewart's place"! :) ...

- my favorite wine was the "Symbiosis Syrah" ... but, i didn't make any purchases of wine whilst attending this, my first wine festival ... Reda's favorite wine was "Skull and Bones" by "Cloak and Dagger"! ...

- on the day of the festival, we arrived a bit early ... but, as luck would have it, as we were walking toward the building ... guess who had just stepped outside? ... yep, SFM! :) ... he stopped a moment to say "hi" and "welcome" ... then, it was time for him to get back to work ... just after that... we had no sooner sat down at a picnic table outside ... when, out the door walked Stephen Rowe! :) ...

- during the festival ... every once in a while ... i would either see or hear SFM go by ... working ... greeting people ... "takin' care of business" as Elvis would say! :) ... at the after-party ... before the concert began ... when SFM introduced Stephen to all of the guests in attendance ... it was easy to tell that those two guys are the best of friends ... we also met Stephen's wife, a beautiful and gracious lady!

before leaving ... my daughter and i were able to talk with Stewart for a bit ... and, he also signed some autographs for us ... and ... the original "Eoghann" was officially "adopted" by SFM! :) ... the little groundhog finally made it to CA! :) ... and ... yep, he's even more handsome in person (i'm talking about Stewart right now - not Eoghann :)! ... but, more importantly SFM is a very kind and gracious man.

- my best wishes to Stewart and the entire garagiste team for continued success!

Wow, BC! That's awesome. It sounds it was like a blast! I'm glad you had such a great time. Thanks for indulging us with your "review".
I live in the city known as the "Birthplace of Route 66" and if you head east on I-44 towards St. Louis, you can see quite a few remnants of the glory days of Route 66. Good thinking to take a little longer to get out there so you could do a little sight-seeing! That's my favorite part of a road trip!
That's pretty cool that you got to go with Reda, who you met here. (Reminds me of going to Disneyland with two of my best friends, who I met online. 12 years later and we're still best friends.) Oh, the wonders of the internet! haha
I'm sure Eoghann was glad to finally end his travels and to be adopted. :-) I've never tried any kind of Syrah. So tragic. Do you think you'll go next year?

- we truly enjoyed our vacation ... and, yes ... we'd like to return to CA and attend the 2nd annual Garagiste Festival! :) ... but, i guess time and future finances will tell if that's an actual possibility?! :)

- "very cool" re: your living in the birthplace of Route 66! :) ... as i understand it, this year - 2011 - is the 85th anniversary ... similar journeys such as ours and countless others began back in 1926 ...

- a photo of the back of my favorte souvenir shirt ...

Hey BC, I never hear from you in email or on the phone, got the Christmas card, thanks. :)
And all you said about Paso Garagiste, ditto. I'm so glad you encouraged me to attend with you. I had a blast! I hope we can go again next year. And I hope Stephen and his lovely wife can come again, he is kickin entertainment. Hot dog. And I hope my hip is better so I can actually dance to the tunes. I've been enjoying the CDs I bought. Hope you got my letter at Christmas, interesting to hear your thoughts on my new situation.

To Stewart, Way to go! on Paso Garagiste. Wow, you put on a fine festival. Saw you working hard all day. Keep up the good work. I think people are hooked. I've told people I know here they should go. It's worth the trip. Thanks for the flyer and for signing it, but I think you have my pen. Ha Ha. And please get your friend Stephen and band to come back next year, they are such gracious people. And he puts on a hell of a show.

Looking forward to next year's festival.
Reda

Hi Reda! :)
- you're welcome! :) ... and, i hope we all can meet in CA next year ... Steph and i are lookin' forward to the "2nd annual" festival ... but, i believe next time, we're gonna "take flight" ... that is if we can "sum up" the courage to board an airplane and the funds for two tickets?! :)
- i received your letter, and i'll try to respond via email sometime later today!

Sounds like you had a great time BC, I had really wanted to make the festival, but financially couldn't swing it. Thanks for sharing. How is school going for you? Today break starts for me, but of course my body wouldn't let me sleep in. Have a wonderful Christmas!

Hi Jenn! :) ...

- i'm sorry things didn't work out this year ... but, i hope that you can make it to the festival next year ... perhaps there will be a way a group of us could all travel together and share expenses?

- school is going well ... i'm really looking forward to one of my classes next semester: "Themes in Literature and Culture: Outlaws in Australian Literature" ! :)

- i too have a built-in alarm clock ... due to having basically the same work schedule for the past 25 years! :)

- i hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
with love from, BC
