Subject: KC Highland Games!

Had a great time at the Kansas City Highland Games and Celtic Festival this weekend but it was a little disconcerting to see the barges loaded with sand on the Missouri River and to see all the preparations for flooding, especially since the festival is held along the river in Riverside Park! Flooding is to be a few days off yet.

Thought about Stewart and his brother as I ate the chicken pie I bought at the games and of the "Christy" episode "Babe in the Woods" as I was watching the games. And yes, I would much prefer to watch the highland games than baseball.

It was a great day at the games but I had to leave a little early to help give a presentation to the alumni association at the school where I work. Sorry to have missed the caileigh that night but at least my favorite band wasn't there.

- remember the question from "lulu" ...
"can't no gals be playin' them highland games"?! :)

- don't reckon i'd be entering the games me-self though ...
especially the "caber toss" ...

'cause according to wikipedia ...
- "the caber toss involves "the tossing of a large wooden pole (called a 'caber')..."
- "similar to a telephone pole or power pole ..."
- in Scotland ...
"the caber is usually made from a Larch pine tree ...
and, a caber "typically is 19 feet 6 inches tall and weighs 175 pounds!"

side note: ...
the caber toss "is said to have developed from the need to toss logs across narrow chasms to cross them ..."

i've never attended any Highland games before Deb!
- but, it sounds like fun!
- i'm glad you had a such a nice day there!
- BC
