Thought you might like to get a flavor of the action from those close to it.

From Hawaii (North shore Oahu)

We are fine so far. Likely soon ocean side neighbors will be coming up
the hill. The sirens have gone off twice now. The fire truck is
making the rounds of Lanikai with loud speakers advising people to move
to higher ground. Your news is likely the same as ours. 3 AM our
time for the wave(s). We shall see. I am sure we are fine up here.

Puna, Amber, Jason and the boys are sleeping. (napping) We will all
be up before long. We have been glued to the TV for a while.

Wish us luck and safe times all around the Pacific tonight.
Love,
Cosette

From Tokyo, Japan

Thanks for the email. We are fine just a little shaken up, literally
and figuratively. I have to admit this was one scary earthquake. The
epicenter was about 200 mile NE of us, off the coast. We're in Tokyo and we really felt it here. I was at home, Aozora was at school, and Terumi was at work on the 17th floor of a downtown skyscraper. After the shaking stopped (it was a really long quake, 1-2 minutes of serious shaking and lots of aftershocks) I headed over to the school to pick Aozora up and he was fine. Other than a quick text message right when the earthquake started, we didn't hear from Terumi for several hours, not until she got home. She walked because the trains weren't running and the phones were all jammed up so she couldn't call. In fact she and I are just now receiving text messages that we sent to each other 5 or 6 hours earlier. We are feeling several smaller quakes each hour, just had a really strong about 10 minutes ago. Now that we are all together things are much better, being apart and unable to communicate was really hard. Anyhow, we're doing OK now. Hope you are well.

Cheers,
Curt

I'm so glad my friends are well.

I got the following from a friend in Santa Cruz. I know they live in the mountains near Santa Cruz, away from the beach, but I was afraid Kirk would go down to the harbor to watch the waves and get photos! I think his wife probably put her foot down! She is used to having to do that! LOL!

"My dear brother called to see if we were OK and yes we are OK. We are at 380' elevation at our house. Santa Cruz harbor is quite a mess. No, I did not go down to watch - I was a good boy and stayed away."

My thoughts and prayers are with those in Japan and other area.

Debbie
