Subject: cost of transportation ...

drivin' through Lebanon this morning ...
re: price per gallon of fuel
lowest: 3.67.9 per
highest: 3.99.9 per ...
btw, is there a reason why they don't go ahead and round it off to the nearest "whole" ...
$4.00 per gallon?!
i'm old enough to remember when it was 65 cents per gallon ...
- and, that was at a full-service island! :)

side note: after adding "sea foam" to my fuel tank ...
the check engine light in regards to emmissions has gone out ...
but now the "empty fuel tank" symbol goes off and on in greater frequency! :)
oh well, there's always my single-speed Schwinn! :)

That's how it is here, BC. It's awful. Gas prices are so high!

$3.82 was the cheapest I could get here in the NW with $4.00+ close to the US /Canadian border (within view of a major refinery.) Oh well, they buy gas by the liter in Canada. I'll admit I have a hard enough time figuring the price out that I always fill the tank before I cross the border.
I'm not looking forward to it, but I'll be driving down to California tis summer. I'll need a car to make several important trips.
Ha! I remember canceling a trip to Montana four years ago because gas was up to $2.40 a gallon!
I do limit my trips during the week and don't play as much. I know we should be conserving and rising prices are a good way to force people to conserve. My big issue is that I feel that the public AND gas prices are being manipulated and I tend to want to rebel.

I know you're saying, "Who, Laura!?!" but, its true.

Eeegads, I just paid over $4.30 this morning. I've begun to translate each purchase by how many gallons of gas I could buy with those dollars. Food is becoming a luxury,... naw I really don't need to eat today, kidding of course, but my internal dialogue keeps up the mantra surely it can't go higher. The people who really need an economical car cannot possibly afford one. I even bought a raffle ticket for an enduro motorcycle! Ah yes I just see me now, a fifty year old woman racing down the highway,...hmm could be fun! Fortunately, the company I work at provides what we fondly call "the short bus/comuter van" which I will be riding starting next week. The company, Index Sensors & Controls,(highly green) is moving up to Bellingham from Stanwood, WA this fall and will still be offering the vanpool. Thank God and our generous, responsible employer otherwise, many of us employees could not afford the commute.

On a side note,...LauraG, I'm heading to Libby MT on July 1st this year and there's room for 1-2 passengers. You are MORE than welcome to hitch a ride. I'm hauling horses and it will be a 10 hour trip starting at 0 dark thirty at my house. I don't know if you have friends/folks there you are wanting to visit but I can get you as far as Libby. My son and friend will be heading down to Yellowstone after the 4th and will be back through Libby heading home on the 10th. Also, Amtrak is an inexpensive route and they go right into Libby. I'm dropping off/picking up folks there,....just a thought to ponder.

Hope all of you are doing well, still loving this place Stewart, thank you!

Ann

Hi Ann,

What a wonderful invitation. I am due for a Montana trip sometime soon.
I'll be in Middletown, CA (just up the hill from Calistoga) from the 25th of june to the 3rd of July and then will be driving up to Nevada City to spend the 4th with my nephew Guy.
My sister and I had a great time this week. I got to take her to Bellingham (dinner at the Cliff House) via Chuckanut Drive. We tiptoed through the tulips but got very wet feet then played in La Connor and Anacortes. She hadn't been to any of those places though she had lived in Sedro Wooley for a bit. Even drove her across the Deception Pass bridge in the pouring rain. But, you know us NWesterners, if we wait for it to stop raining we don't get to do anything. And yes, all you midwesterners, I'll take rain over tornadoes any day!

Thanks for thinking of me. We WILL get together one day soon.

Big hugs,

LauraG

Gas is just the beginning of it. I've been watching the CPI (which does not include the cost of food in their calculations) and the PPI and the cost of everything is rising at an alarming rate. My garden is a little bigger this year just to help offset the cost of food. Now if I just had room for a cow and few chickens... :0)
