Hey Ladies, my family could certainly use your prayers
Mom has had this sore in her mouth for quite a while now and they did a biopsy of it last week. Mom is diagnosed with Stage 3 Squamous cell carcinoma (skin cancer). She will be going to a specialist in Celebration, FL to have a ct scan and pt scan to see if the cancer has spread anywhere else. Once they run those tests the she will be having surgery to remove whatever cancer they can. Depending on the test results after the initial surgery we will find out the next step in the plan is for any other therapies (radiation or chemo). God really is blessing us in this situation, because all the specialists and tests are covered under her insurance plan. I am also thankful that our school has some really good substitute teachers that can cover my class if I need to take any days off to be with my mom for any of the tests and surgeries. My sister is close by too

The past two months have been busy with appointments. Mom had her surgery at the Moffitt Cancer Center on October 8th in Tampa Florida. There are only 8 surgeons in the state that are trained in this area, so she was blessed to have 2 wonderful surgeons that just happened to be in Tampa (about 2 1/2 miles from home). The team of nurses, physical therapists and occupational therapists are amazing and very compassionate. She's been slowly progressing and yesterday the swelling was down enough for them to remove the trache. She texted me today to say she was released and will be home tomorrow. She will still need to go through radiation once she is home for a while and heals more. The doctors are confident they were able to get all the cancer. Wahoo!!!

It's been almost a month since mom's been released from the Moffitt Cancer Center. Mom is getting her energy back. She came to church on Sunday, and even made a trip to Walmart to pick up some food for family that was coming in from NJ. She took her walker in with her. I still say she should have gotten one of the little carts. LOL. The swelling in her mouth has gone down considerably, but she isn't able to really eat much besides soups and puddings. Thank God for the feeding tube! Even though she misses tasting real food, Mom tells me that she loves smelling everything when we cook. Thanksgiving will be different. Instead of making mashed potatoes, I'm going to make her a potato soup that she can enjoy.
Her radiation treatments will start in the next couple weeks. She'll have 6 weeks if therapy. :( Keep her in your prayers.

Glad to hear about your mom, Heather.
BC were you logged in when you tried to post or not? It shouldn't matter but if you were that might be why, especially if your acct is registered under that name. To use BC you might just try not logging in.

Obviously, i'm quite late with my warm thoughts but I hope things are going well for your mom.
I thought I'd check in. I really miss it here and am glad to see that there are still some "familiar" faces on the board.
