It's simply a matter of appeal rather than sheer phonetics.

After all, it's phonetically possible for English speakers to say "God Fire Convoy," but "Omega Prime" is a more marketable name.

"Mini-Con" is phonetically possible for the Japanese, but "Micron" sounds more appealing to most Japanese kids and is thus a more marketable name.
