The regular Lambor and Alert re-releases also came in exactly the same style packaging (see my reviews on them) and yes, G-One Lambor has different stickers.

Probably Alert too, but I can't tell for sure because I don't have an original Red Alert to make a comparison with.

The Lambor and Alert re-releases were convention exclusives and made in hideously limited numbers, thus Takara just used the same packaging for all their super-limited convention exclusive re-releases. I'm not sure if the New Year versions were convention exclusives or not, but I suspect that if they weren't, Takara probably couldn't be bothered with going to the expense of making a new package for the New Year releases.

Even the New Year Convoy box had a few errors -- a couple of photos where the toy is shown with yellow eyes instead of blue, as well as a couple of shots where the toy is missing a sticker or two. But overall, I think they did a reasonable effort with the NY Convoy box.

Sounds like they just got really lazy with the NY Lambor/Alert boxes.
