Subject: On Detatching legs (OT)

Having recently studied a friends book of Shoji Kawamori's original Valkyrie designs I have to say that technicaly speaking the detatchable legs of the Yamato VF1 are quite accurate to Shoji Kawamoris original VF1 designs. Techincaly the legs of the VF1 ARE detachable. During transformation to bataroid the legs are exchanged from one joint to another.

In fighter and gerwalk mode the legs are atatched to the fuselage of the plane just like the Yamato toy, but when it transforms to bataroid mode, servo arms hidden underneath the fuselage extend the legs forward untill they are aligned with the sensors on the nosecone, at this point the legs couple with the nose cone and detatch from the servo arms which held them in place in fighter and gerwalk. The servo arms then retract back inside the fuselage.

Now while the Yamato toy obviously doesn't have any fancy servo arms or whatnots, Its transformation is technicaly the most accurate transforming valkyrie toy to date. Even if a company made a totaly accurate transforming valkyrie toy its legs would still have to be detatchable. So there isn't really that much lack of ingenuity on the toy designers part, having detachable legs is just as viable as the bar which holds Jetfire and the Bandai valkyrie toys legs in place. If you want to balme someone for the detachable legs you'd really have to blame Kawamori.

Ofcourse I agree with you that detachable parts often makes the toy less fun, but in terms of accuracy having removable legs is quite correct.
