Mike, the correction symbols are there to see if you can check a document yourself for errors etc. You will notice that the original document has several errors - print out a copy of this flawed version, and go through it using the symbols in book 2 to mark what you would change to make it right.

The main thrust of the exercise is to make sure that you can do spell/grammar checking manually, because there will no doubt come a time when you will be required to check a document you don't have on file (ie, you just have a paper copy).
