My son was in Kindergarten when he started acting out. They would only test him for ADHD. I was very frustrated and went outside the school when he was in first grade to get him tested. I now know that I should have submitted a formal written request to test for learning disabilities. The district CANNOT use RTI as an excuse not to test for learning disabilities. Look up Wrights Law. It's a website that can give you legal advice. I was lucky enough to have a pediatrician who listened to my concerns and referred us for a psychoeducational exam. That is where the reading disorder was diagnosed. Our insurance covered most of the exam.
