I agree that getting your child's hearing and vision checked is very useful. Make sure you express your concerns to your child's doctor so you can rule out any physical difficulties. I also agree that it is useful to have your child tested as early as possible. Besides looking at dyslexia, I would also be aware of Specific Language Impairment which affects between 5 and 10% of all children. At home with your child, I would focus on her ability to manipulate sounds. Can she recognize rhymes? Can she even make them up? Playing games with rhythm and rhymes are very useful in early language development as are games of clapping out syllables, etc. For more information on support for children at risk of dyslexia, see our website at www.booksfordyslexics.com.
