Like you I have major concerns for the success of pupils with SEN in the old O level style exams, where all learning from the past 2 years is tested in a 2-3 hour exam. I know that my son would really struggle to revise this amount of work and would be totally unable to write for this length of time in any legible or coherent manner. He is very clever but is unable to express his ideas well on paper. I feel that ongoing assessment throughout the 2 year period is a much fairer way for these children to show how much they know. I understand that a lot of coursework was being completed by parents and continually corrected by teachers in order to advance marks, but these problems could have been overcome without a complete reversal to O levels. My son does not want a scribe nor does he want to type, but he does want to be able to show how clever he is, without anyone making special accommodations for him and under the new system, he will not be able to be independent like he would wish.
