I'm also a mother of a bright severely dyslexic 11yo boy. I've had very little help from schools in the past and it has been heart breaking to see my son faling academically even though he is so articulate and smart...
Your son needs you to be strong for him, well informed about dyslexia and supportive for hard times to come. I'm normally a shy, quiet, submissive person, who has learnt to be a demanding (and obnoxious at a time!!!) towards the school and teachers. I get very irritated about people's ignorance about dyslexia.
Your son is probably bright and is trying very hard. He needs to be formally tested and have the school to make the appropriate accomodations for his learning style.
