My son was in this situation 16 years ago so I understand your feeling of helplessness. He went 'into denial' - I had diagnosed him, not the school. The school was not helpful but after a certain age students can't accept the label. I allowed my son to leave school at 16 and go to college. This meant flat-sharing in a city with older students so was a huge step of confidence. He loved college but when I saw him struggling to complete assignments in time, I told him if he got assessed for Dyslexia I'd put a sum of money in his account. It worked! It gave him immense confidence to get the report and he now tells people that he's Dyslexic.
