Many children with Dyslexia simultaneously experience difficulties with Maths. It is important that the basic concepts are first understood. Some simple place value activities will help reinforce number concepts. A sound understanding of multiplication should be achieved before attempting division.
Here is a very simple activity
You will need: 100 marbles or counters, blank markers (can be card)
The child should lay the marbles out in a line with the blank markers after every ten. Encourage lots of fun games with counting. Count from 1- 100. Count backwards. Count on from a given number, count back from a given number. Count in tens, then fives. Play I say a number you say the next.
Put marbles in groups (times tables). Here is one group for me, one you , one for daddy. How many group? How many altogether?
For division activities There are X number of people and they need X number of marbles each, share them out.

This game can be adapted to ensure a firm knowledge of all four processes of number are established.
A simple but effective approach to teaching a dyslexic child who is struggling with maths.
