Subject: Darkfall gameplay problems - part2

Darkfall's gameplay problems are big. Much bigger than was expressed in my last post.

The spell system is barely implemented. The beginning damage spell from the Lesser Magic school called Mana Missile is more effective than high level spells of specialized schools like Higher Magic, Witchcraft etc.
Furthermore, the spells barely get better with higher skill. A spell at skill 75% (they go from 0-100% like UO skills) does about the same damage as a spell at skill 10%.

The balance is poor. The stamina bar that I mentioned in the last post makes it more important to micromanage your stamina bar and chug stamina potions, than to land hits, because damage overall is bad, and because the stamina bar is the all-deciding factor. If you are out of stamina, you will be as dead as if you were out of hitpoints, basically.

Overall damage is bad. It takes 12-15 hits, even by good weapons to kill someone.

It is as if they have been busy building the world and the basic game, and that they totally ignored gameplay up 'till now.
There are so many basic gameplay and UI issues (and the UI issues interfere with gameplay, that they have a huge job in front of them still.


The basic game is still very fun, and there is no chance to find a game of this caliber anywhere else, making its potential great.

But they still have alot to do.

I have no doubt that they will get around to doing it, however. We are still in closed beta, and Im still quite entusiastic, because they will be dedicated to this game, even after release - unlike many other companies (that send in a so-called "live-team" (usually their worst developers - you can compare them to a brick on a lever), pulling the star team out to work on another project).
