Werner Brandis reporting from the Lower East Side.

As you can see the city streets are quiet here, even at night. A quiet that has been a long time in comming. The Mayor today publically thanked the army and General Brodin for bringing peace to the city. At the same time though he requested that the army begin to withdraw, a step that experts say may take another month.

Is the city ready to police itself? Only time will tell.

This is Werner Brandis reporting from the Lower East Side.
