Oliver,
My apologies at having let so much time lapse since my last contact with you. For the longest time I had nothing to report and then once I did, I had a severe security problem I had to rectify before trusting my computer encryption codes.
You were correct. My plan of infiltration was indeed a risky and dangerous one. However it seems to have paid off. I'm somewhat pleased to report that my haven was attacked recently by a coterie of Neonates. At least, I assume they're Neonates since I'm still around. Luckily I had been anticipating such a move and the security measures I had in place helped me to survice the assault. Still, had it not been for the timely arrival of my ghoul I would surely be ash right now.
It turns out the coterie wasn't even after me. They had been sent to investigate rumors of Sabbat activity in these mountain woods where I've made my haven. I've been here for months now and seen no such activity so I can only assume that the rumors generated from the superstition that these woods have been haunted for years. The rumors I've heard the locals spin could easily have been mistaken for Sabbat activity by someone unfamiliar with the legends.
Either way, I now have contacts within the city that I can draw information from without having to enter the city myself. Opposition is so severe in the city now that it seems no Kindred may reside neutrally within. If you are in Marc's domain, which is the city proper now, not just downtown, then you are indeed forced to break the Traditions as you'd heard. Otherwise you must face one of his Disciples in a test of battle to earn the right to leave and not come back. My new contacts are currently affiliated with Samuel Bear and his brood in the region known as Ballard, just north of the canal. They say Samuel's forces are strong but their numbers are few. To the point of active recruitment. Samuel has seemed to draw an "us or them" philospohy in dealing with outsiders. Hence my contacts have joined him rather than try to oppose him. As for the Prince and the Council, it seems they have retreated all the way to Mercer Island where they are still attempting to play court even though they have no subjects. I can't imagine anything more depressing. I will hopefully be able to gain more now that I have contacts in the city. My ghoul has been effective but she can only learn so much as an outsider.
I saw the reports on the news that NY was in another "war with terrorism." I take it that referred to the Sabbat incursion I heard rumor of? I've also heard the the balance of power may have shifted. Tell me, are congratulations in order? If so, is the way clear for me to now return home? I miss my sister and friends terribly. I trust you are still upholding your agreement to leave Mara untainted by all this. I noticed she had begun dating one of your ghouls before I left. Hopefully that was orchestrated by you to keep her protected as opposed to enthralled in any way. I'd hate to think my months spent here have been in vain.
I feel so isolated way up here. What news can you give me?
